Monarch on Lantana

Monarch on Lantana

Initiated in late 2019, the Geo SIG fulfilled entwined goals: to have a place where a special interest group could learn how to preserve the natural world, hence “geo,” through gardening.  It is open to anyone who wishes to join.  The intent was to find and engage in relatively long-term projects that promoted ecology.  The first speaker was Cathy Downs, a regionally well-known butterfly enthusiast.  Because of her and the group’s reaction to her information, the SIG decided to make its first project constructing Monarch Butterfly waystations.

So far, the group has learned what a Monarch waystation involves, received milkweed starter kits, heard from local waystation proponents, and learned about private and public waystation projects in the area.  Many of the members have started their own waystations, some with great luck.    Anyone interested in finding out more about the group or its projects should email geosig@comalmg.com

Geo SIG has been suspended until a date uncertain.  Check back for updates.
