Comal Master Gardeners Association (CMG) is a non-profit, educational, and charitable 501(C)3 association working in collaboration with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.  Our purpose is to support and expand the capabilities of AgriLife Extension Service by providing education on the best practices of horticulture and environmental stewardship with a focus on youth and community service.

To accomplish this, our 200+ members establish and maintain demonstration gardens, support community projects related to horticulture in Comal County, and disseminate information through news articles, clinics, presentations at garden clubs, libraries, and schools.

To accomplish our goals, we’ve established the following programs:

  • Ask-A-Master-Gardener which provides researched responses to Comal County residents with gardening questions.
  • Junior Master Gardeners (JMG) program at 38 Comal and New Braunfels ISD schools.
  • Library Education Program which provides free adult education programs at area libraries on topics that support environmental conservation and gardening practices.
  • Insect Expo where CMG volunteers and AgriLife entomologists provide Comal County fourth grade students an introduction to the insect world.  This annual event is held in February.
  • Speaker Outreach Program provides speakers upon request for specialized topics.  Over fifty Master Gardeners participate in the Speakers Program for local garden clubs, libraries, schools, church groups, and others each year.
  • Annual Spring Seminar where over 200 community members attend CMG’s day-long Spring Seminar on key gardening topics.  Presenters are regionally recognized experts in the fields of horticulture and agriculture.
  • Annual College Scholarships to area high school seniors who major in horticulture related areas.

Vegetables grown in our demonstration garden are donated to area Food Banks—over five tons in 2020.  Funds for our programs are generated by member’s dues, donations, an annual  auction/raffle, and an annual community plant sale with the plants propagated and grown by CMG members.
