The annual CMG Auction is held in the fall as a fundraising event to support CMG’s community education programs.
Funds from the Auction support:
- Youth education for New Braunfels ISD and Comal ISD students, which includes 38 schools’ with gardens
- The AgriLife vegetable garden that teaches and demonstrates good vegetable gardening practices and results in over 6000 pounds annually of vegetables donated to area food banks
- Speaker Outreach Programs for local garden clubs, libraries, schools, church groups and others
- College scholarships to area high school students who plan to major in horticulture or agriculture related fields
The Auction began in 2008 as a “Black Tie” chili supper. The funds were used to help defray expenses of sending our Directors to the quarterly Texas Master Gardener meetings at Texas A&M in College Station and Specialty Training for CMG members. Initially, it was a member only auction with self-sourced items that were no longer needed or used.
After a few years, the Auction committee opened it to the public, expanded community outreach and funded student scholarships. Auction items are now sourced from the CMG membership and community members and businesses. The CMG Auction has been successful thanks to the community, its generous merchants and all CMG members who work to make the Auction a success.
